It all started in the late 1980s, when Caroline’s job with an airline took her to the jewel-rich heart of South America. Brazil’s vibrant markets, alive with color and sparkle, were impossible to resist. She began collecting natural gemstones for herself, then designing one-of-a-kind pieces for friends and family.
By 2003, with a treasure chest of gems and a lifetime of stories, Caroline retired from the airline and turned her passion into a business. She began selling online, quickly realizing that customers wanted something beyond cookie-cutter jewelry. In 2004, Gems by Caroline was born as a family-owned destination for those who crave authenticity, beauty, and luxury that doesn’t feel out of reach.
